Richard Haas Mural Walk (Offsite Program)

10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Event Details

This program has been rescheduled to the previously announced rain date of 7/9/2023.

The Flossmoor Public Library and Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial Inc (FVM) will host a walking tour of Richard Haas’ mural collection!  Learn more about the world's largest collection of trompe l'oeil (fool the eye) murals, located right in our own community! The 2 1/2-mile tour will be led by FVM member Kristine Condon, whose 2020 publication, Richard Haas Murals in Homewood, Illinois, is an Illinois State Historical Society 2022 Superior Achievement Award recipient. You'll focus on the details that make the murals come to life and get a quick history lesson on other locations, businesses, and stories along the route.

Please note that this is an adult library program for participants ages 18+.  Registration is required and limited. The tour will launch from Martin Square at the corner of Martin Avenue and Ridge Road and will conclude at the Homewood Veterans’ Memorial at Harwood Avenue and Olive Road.  Registered participants should plan to arrive by 9:45am. We will leave promptly at 10:00am.  Wear appropriate footwear/outer-wear for the conditions and remember to bring water/refreshments with you. Seating and restrooms are not available along the route of the walk.  In the event of inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 9

Payment of $5 per registrant (cash only) is required. Please stop by the library to register for the program, sign program waivers, and pay the program fee. This program fee is refundable ONLY in the event of cancellation of both program dates: 7/2/23 and the inclement weather date of 7/9/23. 100% of proceeds benefit Flossmoor Veterans' Memorial, Inc., an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, and its Wall of Honor project.

Signed waivers of liability must be on hand before we begin the tour. Registration opens June 1, 2023 at 9:30am and concludes July 1 at 5pm. This program has been partially funded through use of grant monies from AgeOptions. Many thanks to Pete's Auto in Homewood for allowing us a midway gathering spot!  Additional thanks to Starbucks in Homewood (Harwood Ave.) for generously providing refreshments!
